United issues Florida thunderstorm travel waiver for Aug. 3

United issued a weather waiver for Aug. 3 travel involving 11 Florida airports, allowing eligible customers to rebook under specified conditions.

United Airlines issued a weather travel waiver on Aug. 2 for customers scheduled to travel on Aug. 3 through 11 Florida airports.

What the waiver covered

The waiver listed Panama City, Key West, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, West Palm Beach, Pensacola, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Tampa. It allowed eligible customers to make voluntary changes to United or United Express itineraries because of forecast thunderstorms.

Customers whose tickets were purchased on or before Aug. 1 could rebook without a change fee or fare difference, provided the replacement flight departed between Aug. 2 and Aug. 5, remained in the same cabin and used the same origin and destination cities.

For travelers

The waiver was specific to Aug. 3 travel and did not guarantee that every flight would be delayed or canceled. Travelers were advised to check their flight status and the airline’s current travel-alert page before going to the airport.
